There is no doubt that enabling the comment section in Blogger is very important. The comment section allows the visitors to express their feelings and engage more with the article. It is a source for your guests to give feedback and their thoughts.
Having a bustling comment system can give a sign that your article is interesting. Some blog owners even go further by creating fake comments to spark the discussion artificially. A website with high perusers engagement rate tends to be valuable.
By default, Blogger provides us with a nice and elegant comment system. It isn't incredible, yet it is adequate. There is even a comment moderation system so that you can filter out those annoying spam. It is advantageous on the ground that users just need a google account to comment.
However, a portion of the blog owners might need a superior and fancier comment system. In Blogger commenting system, you will not be able to use too much formatting such as animated emoji and embedded images. Sorting out comments and finding a specific word is not easy.
For those of you who are not happy with the default Blogger comment system, you can switch to Disqus commenting system.
It is a third-party platform that provides you with a hosting comment service. Disqus is compatible with Blogger. Disqus can install it easily by inserting a widget.
Disqus offers an enhanced comment section. There are a lot of advanced features which are not there in the default Blogger comment system. If you have high incoming comments, Disqus will help you to moderate them.
Before you decide to install Disqus on your Blogger site, you must consider the pros and cons first.
The Pros of Using Disqus Commenting System
Below are the pros of using the Disqus commenting system in your blogger website:-
- Disqus will enhance your ability to moderate comments.
- You can sort the comments based on the latest, oldest, and best.
- Users will have more freedom in formatting their comments by using some HTML tags.
- It allows users to embed pictures and GIFs.
- Good automatic spam detector
- Users can Edit comments. You can't do this in Blogger, and it is a significant downside.
- Disqus commenting system can be utilized for live discussions, such as chatting. In Blogger, a new comment will only appear after you refresh the page.
There are probably more pros that of Disqus commenting system cannot state in this article. Disqus is one of the most used third-party comment systems. Many publishers such as Rotten Tomatoes, GitLab, and ABC news choose Disqus as their comment system.
The Cons of Using Disqus Commenting System
Below are the cons of using the Disqus commenting system in your blogger website:-
- The biggest concern of using Disqus is its ads injection. Disqus for Blogger is free, but they will inject their ads into your website. To disable the ads altogether, Disqus will require you to upgrade to a premium account.
- Some Disqus users report that Disqus slows down their Blog. Third-party services such as AdSense and Google Analytics do slow down Blogger websites considerably. So it is not surprising if the Disqus comment system may also decrease the loading speed of your Blog.
There is probably another negative impact of using Disqus comments, which I have not listed. Do you have a bad experience using Disqus on your Blogger website? Leave a comment below!
Should I use Disqus for my Blogger website?
It may be worth it to change your default Blogger comment system and use Disqus commenting system. If your blog has many active users who leave many comments, Disqus will improve your website. Blogger's default system will do the job if your blog is still new or doesn't have many words.
The ads in free Disqus are a small trade-off if you need a free but excellent comment moderation system. You can always upgrade to the premium version of it in the future.
Furthermore, Disqus may offer you a comment monetization option if your website is eligible.
Once your blog grows more prominent, it will get harder to moderate the comment section. Having an unmoderated Blogger comment section will decrease the quality of your blog. So, installing a Disqus comment system will help you in managing the comments effortlessly.
I do not use Disqus in this blog because it is small. This blog only receives a couple of comments each couple of days, so it is still manageable. The simplistic Blogger comment system is still adequate for this blog.
